Mr. Maurice R. Smith
Mr. Smith, a resident of Cary, N.C., was appointed to the Board of Trustees by the Board of Governors to serve a term ending in 2017. He serves as chair of the Business Affairs Committee, and a member of the Educational Planning and Programs Committee, the Executive Committee and the Special Committee on Military Affairs.
Smith, President of the Local Government Federal Credit Union (LGFCU), holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of North Carolina Wilmington in 1979 and a J.D. from N.C. Central University School of Law in 2005. His previously served as Executive Vice President of LGFCU from 1992-1999. Before joining LGFCU, Smith held several leadership positions with the State Employees' Credit Union.
His professional and community affiliations include: Secretary of the Credit Union National Association Board of Directors, Chairman of the Filene Research Institute Administrative Board, Board Director of the African American Credit Union Coalition, Board Director of the NC League of Municipalities Local Leadership Foundation, Member of the District of Columbia and US Supreme Court Bars, Member of the NC and American Bar Associations, Certified Superior Court Mediator, Board Director of City of Raleigh Police Memorial Foundation and Board Director of National Cooperative Bank.
