Active Attacker Preparedness

UNCW offers faculty, staff, and students a video overview and training sessions to learn more about active attacker preparedness.

In-Person Training Sessions

Training sessions about what to do in the event of an active attacker incident are conducted by the UNCW Police Department for members of the university community, including students, faculty and staff.

All classes are held at the police department on Lionfish Drive (campus map) unless otherwise noted. No registration is required.

Faculty and staff will get credit for mandatory active attacker preparedness training by attending one of these sessions, or by attending a session their unit/department leader schedules for a specific building or classroom.

Please consider participating in one of our regularly scheduled training courses:

  • Second Wednesday of every month at 6 p.m.
  • Fourth Wednesday of every month at 2 p.m.

Our online training offers a comprehensive overview of critical safety steps the UNCW community should take in the event of an active attacker situation.

It outlines the Run, Hide, Fight emergency response recommended by federal, state, and local first responders, including the UNCW Police Department. Essential information about the Seahawk Warning Siren System and UNCW Alert communication tools are also featured.
