Ally Favory - Ann Flack Boseman Scholarship Show
The UNCW Association for Campus Entertainment (ACE) presents Wood and Metal: An Exploration of How Materials Affect the Creative Process, on display in the Ann Flack Boseman Gallery through Dec. 20.
The exhibit features the work of Ally Favory, a studio art and anthropology studies honor student. Each year, the faculty of the UNCW Department of Art and Art History select a student for this merit-based honor. This is the only solo student exhibition hosted every year at the Boseman Gallery.
Editor-in-chief of Atlantis and an N2 Publishing intern, Favory creates pieces out of wood, steel, and handmade paper, among other materials. She says of her work, “I am afraid of the first step, of blank pages and empty pedestals. I beg raw elements to lead the way, to teach me construction in natural tendencies and show me form in existing shapes.”
With titles like “Ferngully,” “Nucleolus,” and “Rooted,” Favory’s work draws out the everlasting fascination of the intersection between what can be found in nature and the elements created by man.
