Black Mountain College: Avant-Garde Art and Literature in North Carolina, 1933-57

The exhibit celebrates the history of avant-garde art and literature produced at Black Mountain College, the experimential school founded in 1933 by John Andrew Rice. It features a variety of work--paintings, collage, photography, literary broadsides and theatrical playbills--by the school's illustrious faculty and alumni, including Josef Albers, Ruth Asawa, Charles Olson, Arthur Penn and Emerson Woelffer. The Black Mountain College Museum and Arts Center is located in Asheville.
