Film Screening, Discussion with Director of The Final Gift
Tuesday, January 29, 2013
The UNCW Sociology and Criminology Club presents a free screening of "The Final Gift" at 6 p.m. on Feb. 8 in the Azalea Coast Room (Fisher University Union), followed by a discussion with the documentary's director Thérèse Bartholomew.
After the 2003 murder of her brother, Stephen Leone, Bartholomew enrolled in a master's degree program in criminal justice at the University of North Carolina Charlotte. In 2009, she published "Coffee Shop God," a memoir about her struggle to cope with her brother's death.
"The Final Gift," produced by her husband Doug Bartholomew, details her eventual meeting with Karl Staton, the man who killed Leone. The film has been screened throughout the state and New York City.
